First of all you should know that Disk Drill is not only a recovery app but it also offers the data protection algorithms: Recovery Vault and Guaranteed Recovery. Those algorithms allow you to restore any data from the drive where they were run beforehand. So, to increase the chances of a successful recovery you should enable Recovery Vault or Guaranteed Recovery protection on a drive that stores important information (BTW recovery using Recovery Vault and Guaranteed Recovery is a free feature).
But in case you need to recover lost or deleted PSD files from your drive, that hasn’t been secured, Disk Drill offers two scanning modes: Quick Scan and Deep Scan.
Quick Scan scans the records in the file system to locate the deleted files. As you perhaps know the files on Mac are not actually deleted completely until the disk space they were occupying is used for the new data. The advantage of this method is that it’s really quick.
In most cases however the file system records are deleted and that’s where Deep Scan comes to rescue. This method analyzes every bit of the drive in search for files based on their structure. Disk Drill has a database of the files signatures that allows it to recognize the desired file types during the scan. We are glad to inform that Adobe® Photoshop® PSD files are supported by Disk Drill and are represented in the file signature list. Before you launch Deep Scan, make sure that you have checked the PSD format at “Preferences -> File types”.
